THE SURGERY INTERMARQUE SPRINTS, 2010
ROUND ONE:

The first round of The Surgery Sprints for 2010 was a howling success. There were around 70 cars entered and the weather behaved perfectly. This great combination saw plenty of track time for all. What more can a petrol head ask for?

The start of the season kicked off with a good cross section of classic and not so classic cars.
A V8 Triumph Dolomite, "fly brick" Volvo 144, a genuine "Kiwi" Lotus 7, even a  good old 120Y Datsun through to Subaru Impreza's and Mitsi Evo's. Something for every taste!

The BMW Car Club hosted this first round and the event ran like clockwork, with no major incidents.

Competitors and spectators were treated to a lunch time BBQ which also included the prize giving for the 2009 series.
After many years of the BMW Car Club always being the "bridesmaid", the club finally reached  "bride" status, with a very convincing win over the second placed  RotorMotor Car Club.
Well done BMW!
The winner(s) of the Driver's Trophy for the series were Jeremy Smyth and Dave Green with 75 points (1st place equal), followed very closely by Stuart Chandler with 72 points. In total 43 trophies covering the different classes were presented.
Finally the Bruce McLaren trophy was awarded to Darryl Monk for his commitment to the series.
Congratulations to all winners!

We would also like to thank Tim and Liz Neal for generously supplying their wonderful coffee at the lunchtime BBQ and throughout the day.

Round 2 happens on Sunday 30 May.
If you weren't able to make round 1 to collect your trophy, we'll have remaining trophies with us at this round, so see us at lunchtime to collect yours.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the track.

The Concept

  • A low-key, but professionally run, track based introduction to tarmac MotorSport.
  • A standalone series for those who wish to simply try their skills on the track.
  • A competitive Series for those who wish to pit themselves against the others in their class.
  • In the format of a dual car sprint, typically with 8 cars on the track at one time.

An entree to more serious motor sport, leading on to perhaps, Clubmans or Classic Racing. Frequented by many drivers who use it to hone their skills for classic meetings such as:

    Whittaker's MG Classic Motor Race
    MG Charity Classic
Central Districts Classic Car Club closed meetings

Do with it what you wish, the only requirements (apart from Series Rules listed on a separate page) are it is meant to be fun, and competition is friendly.
